A science teacher in the US has been arrested following accusations she was having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student.
Stephanie Peterson, 26, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with two counts of lewd or lascivious battery and one count of transmission of harmful materials to a minor, the Volusia Country Sheriff’s Office reports.
According to Florida law enforcement, Peterson began a relationship with a student in the 8th grade in November 2016. The student allegedly told detectives that it started with Peterson sending nude photos to him.
The teen claims his teacher then began driving to his home at night, and on several occasions had picked him up at 11pm and brought him home at 1am. The student claims she also provided him with marijuana.
Police were alerted to the relationship when the student confessed to his parents.
School officials told police that Ms Peterson resigned from her teaching position on Monday.
