An Aussie mum has taken to Facebook to voice her horror after finding 'live bugs' crawling in her teabags, purchased from Coles.
Queensland shopper Kristie said she made the shocking discovery after opening up a new packet of Coles brand Peppermint Infusion teabags. Sharing a snap of the grim find, it’s clear to see critters in the pack.
And in a disturbing twist, the shopper says this wasn’t the first time she found creepy-crawlies inside her Coles herbal tea.
In the Facebook post, Kristie writes: ‘New recipe hey Coles..... not sure if having live bugs an improvement.
‘This is the second pack I’ve had where it’s had bugs crawling once opened. This was my replacement pack and I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting your brand again. Currently looking to see if these bugs have gone all through my pantry.
‘Packed in India so wonder if this is a big problem with customs.... check your tea bags people!!’
Coles were quick to respond to Kristie’s post, expressing their regret over the ‘unpleasant’ incident and vowing to investigate.
‘We're disappointed to see your unpleasant discovery in our Peppermint Tea Bags as we can assure you we have strict quality controls in place to ensure this doesn't occur,’ said a Coles representative. ‘We'd like to have this followed up further, can you please send us a private message confirming the store of purchase so we can follow this up further?’
Kristie went on to reply that she’d been in touch with the supermarket giant, later adding: ‘I just hope they haven’t spread in my house. Parts where the packaging wasn’t a good tight seal. On both packets.’
