Confused Coles shoppers have lashed out at the supermarket giant over their baffling new meat packaging.
Customers took to the Coles Facebook page to complain that the new vacuum-sealed packages are too hard to open, with some claiming they couldn’t even access their steak and chicken.
Said one shopper: 'I really like your steaks but unfortunately I cant get into the packet.'
Added another: 'Scissors don't work and a knife is to dangerous, even the dog gave up.'
Others complained that using even more plastic - that doesn’t appear to be recyclable - was a step in the wrong direction in the fight against plastic waste.
Said one: 'Tiny little steak and massive plastic packaging - c’mon Coles you can do better than that.’
Added another: ‘Great initiative to cut plastic with bring your own bags, but what is this madness? A tiny piece of steak on this packing with NO recycling symbol?'
Others pointed out that sharp edges caused by cutting into the hard plastic are a safety hazard, while some said that elderly shoppers with arthritis would struggle to get through the tough packaging.
Coles told the social media users that they would pass on the feedback to relevant Coles team members.
