Channel Nine employee Sylvia Jeffreys has broken ranks over her brother-in-law Karl Stefanovic’s controversial removal from the TODAY Show, suggesting that his departure was the result of a troll campaign, and did not reflect the wishes of most viewers.

Sylvia, who was moved to A Current Affair as part of the shakeup that saw her husband Peter Stefanovic and his brother Karl lose their positions, told The Kyle and Jackie O Show that she was surprised by the decision to remove Karl.
‘It’s funny isn’t it? As you guys would know, the people who troll on social media do not reflect the greater population,’ she said, in response to a question about the public support Karl has received.
‘Quite often, when big changes are made, then the silent majority comes out and starts having their say.
‘I don’t know what that decision was based on exactly, but it’s a tough one.’
Referring to the whirlpool of negative publicity and social media reaction following the end of Karl’s marriage to longtime wife Cass, and his subsequent union with current wife Jasmine, Sylvia conceded that ‘something had to give’.
‘I think externally the pressure was massive.’
The star earlier this week confessed that the reshuffle at Nine came as a jolt, and seemed to indicate that she felt she was caught up in a backlash that had nothing to do with her. She now works on evening tabloid show A Current Affair.
‘I didn’t see change on that scale coming… It was a lot to digest all at once,’ she told Stellar Magazine.
‘I don’t know on what basis those decisions were made, but whatever way you look at it, I was collateral.’
