When it comes to making mashed potato, the ingredient list has always been pretty standard - potatoes, butter, milk or cream and salt and pepper.
Until now. in a bizarre new trend, top US chefs are using a surprising new ingredient to bring their mash spuds to life - apple!
That’s right, the likes of cooking guru Martha Stewart and top US chef Guy Fieri have started introducing chopped apples into their mashed potato, revealing that they take your mash to a whole new level with a hit of sweetness.
To make apple mashed potatoes, Martha recommends boiling the chopped apples and potatoes together - she suggests four potatoes to two apples - until soft, before draining and mashing them. She then adds four tablespoons of butter, a tablespoon of sugar and salt to taste to create the unique dish.
