He wrote: ‘Officers, I swear it wasn't me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.’
Now the case has finally gone to court in the UK, with alleged thief Abdulah Hussein making a brief appearance to deny the charges.
But there was a surprising twist in the case. While everyone was expecting to see Ross from Friends 2.0 appear in court, the man had radically changed his appearance - shaving his head, to look nothing like the star.
However that didn’t stop the judge and lawyers from having a laugh about the cause. When the hearing started, Judhe Beverley Lunt said ‘Is this the Ross from Friends case?’
The prosecutor then quipped: 'It is the one with the doppelganger, your honour.'
Ha! It seems even high-flying lawyers and judges follow Twitter these days!
The man will appear in court again on July 4, where he will face theft and fraud charges. Here’s hoping David Schwimmer makes an appearance at the trial!
