‘The guy told me that if you ask for something from the Loose Change Menu, they’ll honour it and give it to you at the cheap price - but it seemed to me that they’re going out of their way to hide if from you, so that people buy the more expensive menu items.
‘I just think it’s a bit cheeky and a bit sneaky. They have a Loose Change Menu and have cheap items on the menu, but it feels like they want to keep it hidden. I always ask for the $1 hamburger and make sure they charge me right.
‘It’s like how they sell water for $3.50 - but you can ask for a cup of water and it’s free. A lot of people don’t know that, but it’s another way to save money.’
While there’s no doubt that McDonald’s still advertise their Loose Change Menu on their website and are proud of it, the dad says that he had been to several stores since learning of the secret tactic and had never seen the items up on the board behind the counter.
He says: ‘People need to remember to ask - Maccas offer cheaper options, you just need to be specific and ask for it.’
