Australia has been in the grip of Kmart Pie Maker-mania for months now, with thousands using the $29 small appliance to make super easy sweet and savoury snacks.
Well now the clever mums over at the Kmart Pie Maker Recipes, Tips and Ideas Australia Facebook group have worked out a simple new hack for making their pies - and it’s a game-changer.
Traditionally home cooks would line the bottom of their pie maker machines with pieces of frozen puff pastry and then cut out a separate circle of puff pastry for the top of the pie.
But now many mums are following a far more simple new technique, where you simply cut the one piece of puff pastry into quarters and then put four small cuts in the middle of each side of pastry so that the sides can fold over the top and become the lid of the pie (see photo below).
With the new technique, you cut the puff pastry into quarters and then place small cuts in the middle of each side as shown.

After placing the filling into the pies, simply fold the pastry over the top.

And it seems mums all over the country have taken to the simple new hack, sharing their excitement all over the Kmart Pie Maker Recipes, Tips and Ideas Australia Facebook page.
‘Seems everyone is now making the tops of their pie from the corner of the pastry.... very economical,’ wrote one fan.Said another: ‘I love that everyone has embraced that method! Pastry efficiency for everyone.’

But there is one warning for those wanting to give the new hack a go, with many saying it only works with the Kmart brand pie maker because they’re smaller than other brands.
‘It only works on the smaller Kmart brand pie makers,’ advised one home cook on the page. ‘For those with larger ones they need to cut a top as well as the bottom.’
