The Voice and Hi-5 star Nathan Foley reveals producers chose his audition song

So sneaky!
Channel 9

Former children’s entertainer Nathan Foley joined #TeamDelta tonight on The Voice, but in the lead up it appears he had a bit of support from producers.

Speaking to New Idea, Foley reveals he may have performed a track from Footloose, but

“I didn’t actually choose that song… I did that song in one of my shows that I do and I think they [producers] heard me sing it and asked me to do it. I love ’80s kind of rock stuff.. so it was natural.”

The 39-year-old also revealed he almost didn’t apply for the show – but was inspired when he ran into a nostalgic Hi-5 fan.

“At the start to be honest with you, I didn’t want to even really do The Voice… I had a friend that did the show a few years back and the last three years has told me ‘you’ve got to do it, do the show.’ I just wasn’t keen, I didn’t think it was going to be good for me in any way, obviously been in the industry for 29 years.”

However, “I went into my local Bunnings and there was a girl behind the counter -she looked probably around 21 or 22 – which is probably the age group now that grew up watching Hi-5. She said: ‘Oh my God Nathan What have you been doing? Do you still sing? What’s happening with your life?’ And it kind of made me a bit of a wakeup call because I haven’t stopped in the last 29 years, but obviously, when you’re not present on camera or not present on-air people think that you’ve fallen off the face of planet earth,” he shared.

“I thought you know what might as well give it a go if I get through the blinds if I get through something else – even if I’m there for a bloody day I’ll give it a go and see what happens. Just to show people, show Australia that I’m still alive and kicking and trying to fulfil my goal and my career,” he continued.

All the best to Nathan!
