‘One of the bosses at work said that they believe there are still around 25 out there that haven’t been claimed yet,’ the employee. ‘If they’re selling for $20k each - that’s half a million bucks just sitting there.’
Added the worker: ‘If anyone wants one, I would suggest going to the bigger Coles stores. They have a lot more Stikeez being sent to them to handle the demand and if they’re going to be there lol.
‘Some of the bigger stores have boxes of them sitting there because they have so many more shoppers... the golden ones have gotta be in there.’
Hmmm, good advice! Australia of course has been sent into Golden Billy Banana frenzy since Wednesday’s eBay auction saw the mini fetch a whopping $20,100 after 65 bids.
After starting at $10, the mini quickly rose to a huge $7,500 - before a bidding frenzy saw it top more than 20k.
But while Stikeez collectors are clearly willing to spend the same as a brand new car on the 3cm tall mini, others around Australia couldn’t believe how ‘idiotic’ the whole incident was.
‘There are people literally on the streets without food, and people are blowing money on a bit of plastic,’ said one. Added another: ‘I think this is the most insane thing I’ve seen in my 54 years.’
But another said: ‘Finding one of these will be like winning Lotto. I need one!’
Don’t we all ...
