But it turns out Ellie in fact created the egg by hand using a range of vegan ingredients, insisting that it tastes as good as a good old traditional egg!
'I think I may have perfected a recipe for a fried egg,' Ellie revealed in a YouTube video. 'It looks just like an egg so much so that people on my Instagram thought it really was an egg.'
Turns out Ellie created the ‘egg white batter’ by combining 1/4 cup of rice flour, 1/4 cup of coconut milk, one tablespoon of water and a good pinch of salt into a bowl.
To create the yolk, she added 170g of steamed and cooled pumpkin to a food processor and added a tablespoon of nutritional yeast, two tablespoons of corn flour, two tablespoons of water, two tablespoons of olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, a pinch of Himalayan salt and 1/4 teaspoon of the black salt and blitzed it.
Then, using a non-stick pan, she poured in some ‘rice batter’ to form the shape of an egg before using a spoon to carefully add the pumpkin mix in a circle in the middle. She then cooked it over a medium heat. Voila!
The wannabe egg received a round of applause from Ellie’s Instagram followers who said they couldn’t wait to try it out for themselves.
'The resemblance is uncanny. Mind-blown,' wrote one. Added another: 'You're a genius! I want to make this for my husband who still eat eggs... let's see if I can fool him.’
