There were scores of amazing cakes on show at the International Cake show in Birmingham overnight - but it was one baking masterpiece in particular that has the whole world talking.
This life-size cake version of Prince Harry and wife Meghan was made by UK baker Lara Mason look more than 250 hours to make, weighing a whopping 127kg and measuring two metres tall.
Using 300 eggs and 50kg of fondant, Lara used a range of decorating techniques on the cake - including making Meghan’s hair using chocolate ganache.
But while many have praised the showstopper cake as an amazing feat, others have called it ‘terrifying’ and ‘the stuff nightmares are made of’, claiming that it doesn’t look like the royal newlyweds.
Lara acknowledges that she was nervous that she hadn’t nailed the cake, and was inspired to do it ahead of Meghan and Harry’s May wedding.
‘It was my biggest challenge to date,’ she told The Mirror. ‘The faces were the hardest part and halfway through I worried I didn’t have any likeness at all.’
Lara also featured a Princess Diana with Harry and William cake at the show, as well as The Queen. Other cakes featured at show include some amazing baking masterpieces involving dogs, Elvis and Jack Sparrow. Amazing!
