Police in Florida have revealed that a woman was kidnapped and killed in what they are calling a murder-for-hire plot gone wrong.

Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson spoke to reporters on Friday and revealed that the plot began after Lopez-Ramos (pictured above) allegedly hired Alexis Ramos-Rivera and his girlfriend Glorianmarie Quinones-Montes to murder a woman with a man that Lopez-Ramos was in love with, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Police reveal that the suspects tracked the believed ‘target’ to a store at a shopping centre. However, once there, they mistakenly  identified Janice Zengotita-Torres, 42, as the ‘intended target when she left the store.’

Sheriff Gibson revealed that ‘the suspects followed the victim to her apartment and in the parking lot they forcibly put the victim into the back of her own vehicle and they drove away.’

The couple soon realised they had ‘mistakenly taken the wrong person’ but ‘continued with their plan of murder.’

Allegedly tying the victim with zip ties and covering her head in duct tape and garbage bags, Sheriff Gibson tells the suspects ‘began beating the victim until she was unconscious’ and then drove her to a nearby beach to dump her body.

According to police, ‘all three confirmed that this was a murder-for-hire and the victim was mistakingly targeted and murdered.’

Sheriff Gibson told reporters, ‘I get emotional because it touches me so deeply that one of our citizens was killed in such a manner over a mistaken identification and in the end it appears to be a lover’s triangle.’
