As created by Anna (@bananalovesyoutoo), honeycomb pasta involves lining a baking tray with pieces of pasta, putting string cheese into the holes, slathering the creation with sauce, meat (if you want) and cheese and then whacking it into the oven.
Despite the recipe's name, there is no actual honeycomb used in the creation. Instead it's simply the way the dish is built which mimics the shape of honeycomb.
To demonstrate the pasta recipe in action, Anna shared a video to her TikTok making the creation, ending the footage by saying: "Honeycomb pasta. So good".
Needless to say the comments section didn't exactly echo her sentiment.
"My Italian heart just dropped," one user wrote.
"I ordered lasagna from Wish and this is what came," added another.
"Tell me you're from the US without telling me you're from the US," a third penned.
But among the many naysayers, there were some people defending the honeycomb concoction.
"This looks good to me these weren't the comments I was expecting." one user wrote.
Another argued that the dish was very much like the lasagna we all know and love, writing: "I hope y'all realise this is exactly what y'all eat just layered differently. It's LITERALLY lasagna. Just different shapes."
A third commenter added: "Everyone is so pressed. Good thing it's their food and they're not forcing you to make it."
But even so, many people HAVE recreated the dish on TikTok... to unsurprisingly mixed reviews.
While some content creators gave two thumbs up to the reconstructed lasagna, Italian Pasta Queen (@the_pastaqueen) did not offer her stamp of approval.
Reacting to a chef making the dish, The Pasta Queen was open minded enough to begin with, but as she watched the creation unfold in front of her eyes, she labelled the whole thing "blasphemy".
We guess the only way to find out if this honeycomb creation holds up is to try it for yourself. Recipe below!
