There are a million things to spend money on at Christmas - but according to ALDI, your feast doesn’t have to be one of them.
The supermarket chain has come up with a budget menu for six using their Christmas range, that will cost you less than $20 a person.
The ALDI feast includes a half leg ham, 3.6kg whole turkey, herb & garlic prawns, smoked salmon, pudding, pies, vanilla custard, Christmas cake, bonbons as well as a festive glass of Champagne each which, the supermarket says, costs just $19.86 per person.
All sounds too good to be true, right? Well we decided to put the menu to the test and get have a family of six enjoy the pre-Christmas feast. And their verdict? It’s pretty damn tasty - but there’s one very big thing missing.
‘We all love ALDI in our family and we shop there regularly, so we were pretty excited to try their feast,’ the Gold Coast mum reveals.
‘It was weird having a Christmas feast before December 25 - but I just told the kids we were having a practice run!
‘Overall we were really impressed with it all. The turkey and ham were super tasty - as good as any that were ever had. My kids really loved the garlic and herb prawns - even though they were frozen, they tasted really juicy and fresh when they were cooked up.
‘The desserts were all amazing too - especially the pudding and custard, really moist.
And obviously my husband and I loved the champagne - and given that the kids couldn’t have any of it, there was more for us to enjoy!
‘But there was one big thing missing - salad or vegetables. We really wouldn’t loved to have some potatoes and beans, a bit of salad - it would’ve completed the meal.
‘And it would only cost less than $10 to put that on the table, so we think that’s worth it. But other than that, it’s really great value and super yum.’
