UPDATE: A woman has tragically died after falling from the fifth-floor balcony of one of Australia's busiest shopping centres.
Authorities have confirmed that despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was later pronounced dead.
It's believed the woman fell from the fifth floor of the Westfield shopping centre in Sydney's Parramatta, outside the Herb Steam and Massage, and landed on the second floor near Uniqlo.
'I thought it was terrorists - I heard 'BANG', it sounded like a bomb or something,' one witness told the Daily Mail.
EARLIER: A woman has fallen from a balcony at one of Australia's busiest and most popular shopping centres.
New South Wales Police has confirmed that officers and emergency services were on the scene at the Westfield shopping centre in Parramatta after the woman fell earlier today.
Emergency services have responded to an incident at Westfield Parramatta where a person has fallen from a height,' Parramatta Police Area Command posted to Facebook.
'Police and security have cordoned the area off while medical personnel attend to the person.'
Shocked witnesses and shoppers have taken to social media to discuss their horror over the ‘really traumatic’ incident.
‘My friend was there when it happened! She's really shaken,' one said.
'I'm so shocked!!! Someone just jumped or fell down from fifth floor of the mall!!! I hope she is still alive! God bless her,' said another shopper.
Said a third: 'Oh my ****ing god a lady just... landed near me in Westfield Parramatta... can't stop shaking.’
