Wine Subscription: 5 Best Options in Australia

A wine subscription can be your one-stop-shop to sampling delicious or new wines for the best value delivered right to your door. There are many wine clubs in Australia, we are after all a nation with many award-winning wineries, and they’ve been around for many decades. When it comes to choosing the best wine subscription in Australia you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Many wine clubs are online and offer membership with perks like free delivery or cheap wine deals for those who may not have access to their wine, or a variety of wine, in their area. Wine subscriptions are fun for seasoned wine lovers and for beginners. The wine club game is growing rapidly in popularity and changing too. Once upon a time it was for retirees, but now there are many niche and micro-wineries that target all ages.

Best wine subscriptions in Australia

Naked Wines

About: Naked Wines has been around since 2008 and has a unique wine subscription method. Members are known as ‘Angels’ and the fees go directly to the wine making community. Their mission is to allow independent winemakers to make great wine and spend less time worrying about selling and merchandising them by connecting buyers (the Angels) directly to the winemakers. It’s crowdfunding but for wine, and members help support small business.

What you get: Each month ‘Angels’ pay $40 into an account and receive a free bottle of wine when they order a case with that money. Members also get access to exclusive bottles, early-release wines and deals that are up to 50% off retail prices.

Why they’re great: Naked Wines are passionate about supporting independent winemakers and being a member of this community allows you to support them in turn. Members get exclusive invites to tasting events and get to try truly unique wines that aren’t available on bottle shop shelves.

Vinomofo

About: This multi-award winning Australian start-up launched in 2011 and has a thriving online community of 500,000 members and delivers wine straight to your door. Vinomofo partners with top wine producers and select a limited range of amazing wines that they sell as heavily discounted deals. Their wine brands can’t be revealed because of the exclusive discounting but boxes are a mix of Australian, New Zealand and European wines, and include some biodynamic wines too.

What you get: Vinomofo offers two different wine clubs. There is the Black Market Club where for $139 you get access to exclusive deals of 12 mixed bottles (mainly reds) every 1-2 months that are 60-70% off retail price, making each bottle come to under $12.  The second wine club option is the Mofo Club which is $159 - $199 and you choose what types of wine you want (red, white or mixed) and when (every 1, 2, or 3 months). Also a great deal, the 12 bottles are worth over $300 but you’ll only pay on average $13-15 per bottle.

Why they’re great: It’s free to join the Vinomofo members-only online community and start sharing your love of wine. Once you’ve chosen your wine club, you can then personalise your subscription based on your preferences. Vinomofo also offers a full credit or refund if you’ve tried a bottle in the dozen or six and don’t like it. You’ll also get access to tasting videos for each order.
