And in a new twist, one of the measurements was done in-store on Woolworths scales.
The two scandals come just weeks after another disgruntled shopper warned customers to weigh their meat before leaving the store, after their 500g mince measured in at 262g.
In one of the new posts, shopper Kate says: ‘Just bought packaged minced beef at your Huonville, Tasmania store. Was labelled 500gm, but when I got home and weighed it, it was 267gm, including packaging.
‘I am disgusted that you are selling underweight packs of mince, indeed probably without packaging, only half the weight printed on the pack. This is a scam and I will spread the word to my friends and community. Shame on you Woolworths!’
Responding to her claim, a Woolworths spokesperson said they ‘take incidents like this very seriously’ and that it had been ‘escalated for immediate investigation.’
In another post, shopper Sue posted a pic to show how her 500g pack of chicken mince measured just 322g - on Woolworths scales.
Writes Sue: ‘This is so wrong. 500gmE ... Weighs in at 322gm. What a bloody rip off!’
A Woolworths spokesperson agreed the incident ‘didn’t look right at all’, promising to investigate. Said the spokesperson: ‘We have a range of checks and balances in place throughout production to ensure our products comply with trade measurement requirements.’
Other social media use were outraged by the two incidents.
‘That is so bad,’ said one. Added another: ‘So disappointing.’
Said a third: ‘I’m going to have to start weighing my meat I think...’
A Woolworths spokesperson tells New Idea Food that they're investigating the claims - adding that meat packs in recent batches have in fact been measuring at more than the advertised weight.
'We’ve asked the customers for further information so we can look into the claims,' the spokesperson says.
'All of our pre-packed meat products are checked for their weight on scales that have been certified for trade use.
'We’ve checked the records on some recent batches of pre-packed meat products. The average pack weight across these batches was slightly higher than the stated weight.
'If ever our customers are concerned about the weight of a product, we'd encourage them to return it to our store. This not only allows us to issue a refund, but also helps to ensure we have the product details we need to investigate further.'
