‘Just saw the new self serve checkout trial ... I'll be happy to use self serve checkouts when you start paying me to do so,
said one. ‘ If there was an instant discount at the time of purchase, it could tempt me to self serve, but until then I will use the usual checkouts, and always go ask for more to be opened if the available ones are full.’
Added another: ‘I see people demanding an instant checkout to use the new checkouts and I think it’s a great idea. Woolworths save money by hiring less employees, we should save money too. What do you say, Woolies?’
Said a third: ‘This new self-service trolly check out, how much of a discount are you going to offer for me to use?
Added one more: ‘I love this idea of getting a discount when I use the self-service checkouts. If we’re going to give up on customer service, then I should get paid for it.’
But others have shot down the idea, saying it’s excessive.
‘Do you ask for a bonus at the bank..or extra fuel at the servo ..both those places you serve yourself...or do you stand there like a spare part demanding someone come and serve you?’ asked one. Said another: ‘Do you also refuse to pump your own fuel and do your own banking?’
