She writes: ‘Woolworths ... please explain why meat is now “moisture infused”? Who asked for this to happen? Basically we now have to have water in our meat and also pay for it at $20/kg?!? #nothappy’
While wording on the packet says the meat has been ‘lightly infused for juiciness & tenderness’, other shoppers are more skeptical.
Said one Woolworths supermarket shopper: ‘Sent off an email last week to Woolworths complaining about the amount of water = weight = extra $'s in their various meats. Haven't received a reply.
‘Took a photo into our local store late last year showing the amount of water that was in baking dish with water. They gave me another cut from their butcher, not the plastic packages that you require tin snips to open. Happy you are onto it as well. (Must say i haven't seen any mention of moisturising on packages, will take a look next visit.) Absolutely a rip off.’
Said another: ‘Meat is often injected with water to make it heavier. Sneaky practices to make us pay more for our meat.’
