The shopper also went on to say that there’s no pasta or tinned food available at the store, with shoppers stocking up on the essential items as fears of a coronavirus ‘lockdown’ grow.
‘The shelves are completely bare,’ says the shopper. ‘People are mad!’
The new image comes just days after it was revealed that shoppers around the country are stockpiling groceries, basic medical products, water and toiletries to last them the coming weeks and months.
Says one shopper: ‘I now have a years supply,’ she says. ‘That’s not including the fruit and veggies I grow.’
Said another: ‘Corona is serious and has a high death rate. It is only a matter of time before it becomes a pandemic. The US CDC warned of the same thing today. It is absolutely time to stock up.’
Added a third: ‘It will be the people that scoff now that end up starving or dead.’
A Woolworths spokesperson has confirmed to New Idea Food that some products have sold out due to a ‘sharp increase’ in the demand for some items.
‘We’ve seen a sharp increase in demand for long life pantry items and household staples in recent days, which has led to partial stock shortages across some of our stores,’ the spokesperson said.
‘We’ve been working closely with our suppliers to ramp up deliveries and production to maintain stock availability for our customers.
‘We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience.’
