‘And now I read on your Facebook page that someone else has told you as well. Everyone...check your dockets from Woolies. It seems they have a great way to make extra money. If it happens again I'll be contacting Fairtrading and the media.’
Another customer has also shared a receipt showing the double charge - which bizarrely happened while he was using the self-service checkout.
Says Woolworths shopper Andrew: ‘How does this even happen Woolworths? Self-serve: place nectarines on scale, select item on touch-screen, place nectarines in bag.
‘I get home and discover that I've somehow been charged for 2 x nectarines. I only selected them once, I only bagged then once. What's the go? Back to Aldi for me. They never scan items incorrectly there.’
Added another social media user: ‘May have been a glitch? All I can think of. Technology these days, we can’t live without it, but it can sure be a pain to work out its mood.’
Responding to the shopper’s enquiry on Facebook, a Woolworths spokesperson offered to have the item refunded - but didn’t offer any explanation as to how the glitch has reportedly happened on more than one occasion.
New Idea Food has reached out to Woolworths for comment.
